Should you GO FOR THE NO??

Raise your hand if you have been a victim of the GO FOR NO sales mentality in Network Marketing.  If you belong to an MLM, how many of your Upline have trained you in this aggressive way?

Let’s be honest.  This is a tactic, which in its core, takes advantage of the timid consumer, and for the majority, this doesn’t build a long lasting relationship, rather a quick, one time product sale just so you will stop harassing them.   This gives the whole industry an unfortunately bad reputation it may not deserve — Network and MLM marketing should be fairly viewed on their merits as a legitimate business with great products.

A no doesn’t have to mean the door is closed. But…and it’s a big one; the hard sale should be replaced with relationship building.  This is a much softer way of massaging a NO or a skeptic into a long term relationship.  A shift in your mindset may cause a shift in theirs — build a trust factor with a customer, friend, team member for the long haul.

Remember, a NO is inevitable. However, the goal should be to build relationships, not an immediate, one-time sale. Stay with people for the long-haul. Offer them value, show them genuine interest, and follow up. The prospect that said no the first time may eventually become a yes.

What, exactly, is Direct Marketing?

Direct marketing is a when a business communicates directly to a customer and offer a method to procure a direct response.  Direct marketing gives you the opportunity to promote your products and services directly to your customers in a targeted way.  It should focus on promoting a specific product or service, and call on customers to act – to ask for further information, visit a website, or make a purchase.

A good direct marketing campaign should:

  • help you build relationships with customers
  • prove which marketing approach appeals to your target market
  • increase sales

The most important step to an effective direct marketing campaign is to identify and know your ideal target customer.  

  • Who are they? 
  • Where are they and what are their shopping habits? 
  • What is their pain point, and how does your product or service help them?  

By taking the time to research and identify the customers who are most likely to need or want your products and services, you can focus your marketing efforts when and where you have the highest chance of achieving results.

Targeting your message to a specific audience can help you set realistic sales goals and improve results on a limited marketing budget. Businesses can run effective marketing campaigns at a fraction of the cost of traditional advertising.

Utilizing data you collect, you can personalize offers to potential customers to create an immediate connection to your business.  In addition, by combining direct marketing with customer loyalty programs, you can build stronger customer relationships (redeemable points, coupons, discount offers, invites to upcoming sales).  This technique should realize a better sales success rate than mass marketing to people who may not be interested in your products or services.

Direct marketing campaigns also allow you to test new tactics, measure the effectiveness of ads, and easily make adjustments to maximize results. Imagine if you email 100 customers a discount code for your website, and 20 use it for a purchase, the campaign had a response rate of 20%. By working out the cost of creating an email campaign, as well as the profit you made from each customer that utilized the code, you can directly correlate the effectiveness of your direct marketing campaign.

Direct marketers also have multiple opportunities to close sales. A telemarketer can ask questions to learn why a person is hesitant to make a purchase and find ways to overcome to make the sale. The past few years have absolutely exploded with people working in home based, remote, and time flexible side jobs.  Bloggers, Social Media Managers and Web Designers are 3 of the most popular.  But there are other ways that get much less press that we want to share here.

Virtual Assistants:

This year’s hot job is a Virtual Assistant.  This job is a great way to put your administrative and organizational skills to work for bloggers, Entrepreneurs, and other businesses in a virtual atmosphere.  All it takes is a computer, an internet connection and a drive to succeed. Duties could include follow up phone calls, emails, bookkeeping, customer service, websites, and social media. 

A VA can often find work at  job boards like Upwork or Fiverr.

Proofreader:

If you have a computer, an internet connection, a good command of the English language, and an eye for detail, you can work as a Proofreader. Proofreaders are hired to search through documents, books, and blog posts for errors. 

Proofreaders that can  specialize in certain areas – such as proofreading transcripts for court reporters. 

Transcriptionist:

Businesses and bloggers using podcasts and video to reach their audiences often need a transcriptionist to turn their work into written content for marketing or training materials.

Medical, Legal and Governmental transcriptionists are more qualified, requiring additional specialized training.

Transcribe Anywhere is a great course for aspiring transcription professionals.

These jobs can be done freelance with a computer and internet connection.

Online Tutor:

With the right set of skills, becoming an online tutor can be a great way to make some extra cash. Online tutors are needed for many different subjects. Make sure to do your research for reputable companies when applying for online tutoring jobs.  For general tutoring jobs, try sites like Tutor.com and Varsity Tutors . Online tutoring jobs may require a degree or professional certificate. However, some jobs only require some sort of prior tutoring or coaching experience.

Selling Online:

Selling items on eBay,  Shopify or other online storefronts is a great way to make some cash quickly, if you are willing to spend some time scavenging for treasure.

Buy designer clothes, coins, collectibles and other unique items at thrift stores and yard sales, and resell them online

Sell Your Photos:

A free app called Foap is a platform to turn your photos into cash just by downloading the app and creating an account.

Then, upload your photos to the app’s marketplace.

Users that like your photo may buy the license to it for $10. You make $5 For each sale.

Taking Online Surveys:

Surveys can be a decent way to make small amount of extra pocket change without much effort.

Companies like Survey Junkie, Vindale Research and EarningStation pay in cash or gift cards.

Watching Movies:

InboxDollars will pay you to watch movie previews, celebrity videos and the latest news. Playlists may run from just a few minutes to an hour, and you must watch the entire list to get paid. The availability is subject to change, but it’s possible to earn up to a couple hundred dollars a month.

Food Delivery Driver:

Why do people look at MLM’s as if they are not a real job?

One major reason the public at large has a negative connotation towards MLM’s is that a huge percentage of people involved with them don’t even look at their own business as a legitimate business.  How do you expect to be taken seriously in any business if you are partially present or a dreaded “pusher”? 

If you look at the top earners in any MLM, they have a very important thing in common: their approach to working their business as if it is their own business empire.  It’s not a “get rich quick” scheme, they don’t treat it as a hobby, part time gig, or hop from company to company chasing shiny objects.  THEY DO make themselves a business plan for success, and work that plan until they are.  They are leaders, not sellers.

Before you join an MLM, ask yourself:

  1. Why this company?  If your answer is because it’s super hot right now…and all my friends are doing it, then you can expect that you will probably not get very far!  

2.    Am I willing to put in the work required?  Do I have the mindset to make this a BUSINESS I work at daily and set goals to accomplish? Or am I looking at it as a hobby? 

3. Do I expect to make a lot of money quickly by getting my friends and family to buy from me?  (hint: they might, once…)

4.  What happens if I don’t make money?  How long am I willing to work? What kind of investment in money and time am I willing to walk away from?

MLM Network Marketing

In reality, an MLM is a virtual business that relies on you as an independent salesperson, rather than as an employee of an online or brick and mortar store.  If you worked directly for their company or at their store, you would have set hours and rules to live by.  An MLM allows you the ability to create YOUR OWN BUSINESS selling their products.  Treat it as if it’s your money, time and reputation on the line.  Because IT IS!!

This is a huge benefit for many people, but unfortunately also where the negative connotation comes into play.  We all know those MLM pushers (who, in reality are someone you haven’t seen in 10 years, who, out of the blue DM you with, “hey girl…are you interested in a business opportunity?”). It’s no wonder people run!  Pestering the people you love, and the people you barely know to buy, and to join you is just bad business.  Spamming Facebook and Instagram with your message is a great way to get yourself unfollowed.

Luckily, there are many great ways to grow your MLM business without alienating your people:

Take advantage of the company’s free website

Learn absolutely everything you can about the company you promote, utilize their free training and their free marketing materials

Create a dynamic and active FB group and promote it with ads.  Provide training and education to group members.

Place paid FB ads (be very careful, however…MLM’s are against Facebook Terms of Service, so think outside the box!)

Provide VALUE whenever possible, through education about your products.  Regardless of what you’ve always heard, DONT always be selling.  You will build more, and higher quality relationships if people find you a valuable asset rather than a pushy salesperson.

Attend local marketing events and hand out your business card

Become a living representation of what is GOOD about your chosen MLM.  (and no, this doesn’t mean telling everyone you know how Essential oils will cure their Cancer).  

In essence, there are many quality MLM’s and many quality MLM people.  Be one of them.  Have realistic expectations, set goals, work your business and be someone to look up to.  It IS possible to make money in MLM world if you go about it the right way.  Get out there and change the perception.  Be the change!

How I Use Third-Party Stories to Crush Sales Objections & Sign More Business

Hello everyone. Today, we’re going to talk about third-party stories and how to apply them in your network marketing career. Third-party stories remain one of the most effective techniques in network marketing; especially in today’s world where customer reviews are so important (no one believes marketers anymore).

Why 3rd party Stories?

A story is proof that what you’re selling works. So, it is only logical that you leverage on this ‘tool’ when talking to prospects. However, as a newbie in the business, chances are that you may not have any story yet. This is why third-party stories are so awesome; they do not have to be yours. You can always tell someone else’s story (so long as it is relevant to your business).

We’re now going to talk about the elements that make a third party story effective.

Elements of a Convincing third Party Story

  • The identity of the Individual(s)

No one wants to hear the story of a fictitious character. So, sharing the names, professions and marital status of the people in the discussion will go a long way.

  • What caused them to look for something more

The reason why they ventured into the business in the first place; what happened in their life that made them search for a better option.

  • What convinced them to take the chance
  • How the business has improved their life.

The more specific you get the better! Get into the juicy details, this is what works.

Third party stories are powerful because they show the prospect that people in their shoes have been able to get ahead by taking steps. This brings up the next concern, “What if you don’t personally know the third party in question?”

 What if you personally don’t know them?

If you don’t personally know the people in your company that have a success story, Do your due diligence and obtain their contact info from mutual associates.

Here’s how we get our testimonies from third parties:

Reach out to them through Private messages

After obtaining their contact details, you may proceed to convince them to share their story with you; let them know that you intend to use it to convince your prospects. This is the easiest way to get a testimony.

Conduct an Interview

Now, this is a bit more complex than private messaging, but it is more effective. You can conduct a live interview of the third party and send it to anyone that may have objections.

Now you don’t need expensive gear to do a good interview. You may use the Facebook dual-broadcast feature and get the testimony you need.

People love hearing success stories, and they’d prefer to hear them directly from the source. Plus, sending people an interview makes you look more competent.

Attend your company events

You can get lots of success stories from seminars and company events. People will be more likely to answer your questions at a seminar than on Facebook messenger.

So, have a re-think before you pass on any event organized by your company.

Creating Your Story bank

A story bank is a compilation of different stories gotten from different sources. It is created for the purpose of converting sceptics to clients.

A good story bank should contain 7-10 success stories gotten from individuals with different backgrounds (students, lawyers, parents, etc.) This way, you will have at least one story your prospect can relate to.

Is Product Sampling A Smart Sales Strategy?

So, you’ve decided to go into network marketing and found a REALLY good company with quality products. What’s the next step? You’ll need to SELL these products. But wait, you have to be able to show people that your products work, right? This brings up the issue of product sampling.

First, we must begin that sampling is not a ‘must-do’ when selling your products. It should be done only when necessary and you must be smart at it or else, you’ll waste your time and money.

However, there are times where product sampling is the smart thing to do. So I’m going to shed some light on the ‘right’ time and context to sample your products.

When product sampling is a smart move

Product sampling is a nice idea when you’re selling products with immediate results. It can be incorporated into your sales strategy. Here are a few examples of products that are right with sampling:

  • Energy drinks
  • Makeup
  • Essential oils

These products deliver immediate gratification, so prospects can INSTANTLY see the benefit of doing business with you and customers can see INSTANTLY see the benefits of purchasing your products.

Get it?

Product sampling is super cool when you know an influencer (someone with a large audience) in the niche. This way, they can recommend your product to their fans/followers.

In such instances, sampling is seen as an investment and not an expense.

When product sampling is a waste of time & money

Now, I’m going to talk about instances where product sampling is an unwise decision.

When you’re into products that take a considerably long time to see a result; then sampling out will be a FOOLISH decision.

Imagine sampling a weight loss program that takes 3 months to deliver results. This would be a waste of your limited time and resources. If you’re into such products, I’d suggest you strike out sampling from your books.

Sampling in such products can only be profitable if you work with an influencer (as I’ve already explained above).

How to Handle Product Sampling

The best product sampling is the one that begins and ends in a sale. Here’s how to do it.

When you deal in a product that takes time to show the desired results, you will have to shift your focus from traditional sampling and give the customers a cash back guarantee instead.

Here’s an example, let’s say you sell an anti-ageing product.

Instead of letting prospects try out the product for 3 months before buying.

You can say something like, “you’ll get your money back if results are not seen after 3 months of using the product.”

This way, the customer doesn’t stand to lose anything and neither do you; it’s a win-win situation. This technique is only going to work if you have HIGH-QUALITY products that WORK.

In Conclusion

In network marketing, you’re also trying to recruit your customers. So in selling, you must make them believe that they can make a lot of money with minimal effort.

If people see you struggling with product sampling, they’ll make comments like, “I wouldn’t want to go through that stress of product sampling like him/her.” And this will cost you potential prospects.

You must be careful with your choices while in the network marketing business.

When you sell a product, however, you can get much more revenue per customer. You may begin by selling one or two awesome products to your customers.

When people see how superb these products are, they’ll go on to buy more products from you. This way, your potential revenue is endless. This is why it’s so important that you find a company with quality products.

Direct sales or Network Marketing Companies

Not to start a debate here, but there are big differences between a Direct Sale and a Network Marketing Company. One common mistake newbies make is assuming they’re the same thing.

Here are a few differences:

  • Direct marketing companies are more invested in durable products while network marketing companies are more about consumable products.
  • In direct sales, you work on a commission basis (you get your money when you make a sale) while in network marketing, you earn your money by building a system (this is where residual income lies).

This is why I insist that you make sure that the business model aligns with your goals. In my experience, finding a company that sells consumable products is often the faster route to making stable residual income.

Here’s my advice:

If you want to make stable residual income, go into business with a company whose products are so good that people will buy with or without a compensation plan attached to it.

And finally, find a company that deals in consumables as this will save you the time and energy of re-selling to your customers over and over again.
